The European Patent Organisation, an international organisation with its 
headquarters in Munich, operates the fastest-growing regional patent
system worldwide. It currently has 30 member states* and is set to
expand further in the near future.

Its executive body, the European Patent Office, strives to stand out as
a model international public service organisation. Its mission is to
support innovation, competitiveness and economic growth for the benefit
of European citizens. As the patent granting authority for Europe with a
strong global orientation, it received more than 160 000 patent
applications in 2003. With a budget of over EUR 1bn, and more than 6000
staff in Munich and at its branches in The Hague, Berlin and Vienna, the
EPO is one of the largest patent offices worldwide, and the
second-biggest European organisation.

The European Patent Office is currently recruiting

**engineers and scientists**

to work as patent examiners at its offices in Munich and The Hague

We are looking for suitably qualified candidates in the following fields
of audio/video/media:

·       For Munich and The Hague: matrix display controls and drivers,
digital image processing, speech processing, acoustic electromechanical
transducers and circuitry, stereophonic systems, television systems,
signal processing techniques and circuits

·       For The Hague only: LCD displays

·       For Munich only: digital signal recording and editing

Working in the EPO's three official languages (English, French and
German), your main duties will be to examine patent applications and
oppositions to patents in your specialist field. This involves carrying
out online database searches, analysing documents, conducting written
and oral communications with patent applicants and their attorneys, and
taking decisions on the granting of patents.

You must be a national of one of our current (or prospective) member
states* and have
§       a full university degree in engineering or a science
§       a genuine interest in technology, an eye for detail and an
analytical mind
§       a working knowledge of at least two of the official languages (a
basic knowledge of the third language would be an advantage).
