Job description

A research associate is needed for JAST (Joint Action Science and
Technology) which is a European Sixth Framework Integrated Project to help
develop, run and analyze the experiments. Applicants should hold a PhD in
experimental psychology or cognitive science or have equivalent research
experience.  They should have a good grasp of statistics used in
psycholinguistic research.  The ideal candidate will have experience with
eye-tracking, the experimental study of dialogue, psycholinguistics, or the
design of dialogue annotation systems. UNIX programming skills are highly
desirable.

This appointment is for a fixed term of up to 4 years (47months) full-time,
starting between 1 October, 2004 and 1 January, 2005.

Job Description
A research programmer is needed for JAST  (Joint Action Science and
Technology) which is a European Sixth Framework Integrated Project, to help
develop and implement experimental paradigms for the project's dual
eye-tracking laboratory. The ideal candidate for this post will hold a
degree in computer science, cognitive science, or experimental psychology
and will have practical experience in developing robust applications and
interfaces. Programming expertise in C/C++, especially in low-level real
time DOS applications involving direct access to hardware components, and in
directX or equivalent graphics applications is essential. Experience with
Java, XML and Unix-oriented languages is highly desirable.  Interest in
cognitive science or spoken dialogue would be a distinct advantage.

This appointment is to run for a fixed term of 4 years from a date between 1
September, 2004 and 1 January, 2005 and will be on the AR1A salary scale.
It is funded full-time in the first 14 months and for 20% time thereafter.
Subject to obtaining funding on other research grants, it may be possible to
continue full time after the 14 months but this cannot be guaranteed at
present.
