Title: Programmer-Analyst


Job Description: 

The candidate will develop applications in the fields of corpus processing
and analysis, knowledge extraction from text and representation, and other
applications related to natural language technology.  The candidate will
help to write software for these applications and will play a key role in
enhancing, maintaining and documenting such software.  He will also help to
collect, process and maintain natural language resources of various kinds
(semantic, syntactic).  The candidate will be asked to show initiative and
creativity in the development of new algorithms. The candidate will
participate in numerous projects, working with the other members of the team
at the Centre and NRC, and could be involved in projects with clients.




Master's degree in Computer Science with specialization in the field of
natural language processing or computational linguistics OR Master's degree
in a language-related discipline with relevant computer experience. 


The candidate should possess software development experience in the area of
linguistic-based natural language processing (NLP). Experience in the
development of databases and client-server applications. Demonstrated
experience with programming languages Java and Perl.  Experience with
operating systems such as Linux, Unix and Windows.

Technical Experience:

Good knowledge of programming languages Java, Perl, and C++ and of operating
systems such as Linux, Unix and Windows. 

Knowledge of different software available for development of NLP
applications, such as taggers, parsers, semantic analyzers. 

Ability to deal with large amounts of data (e.g., text corpora) and of
efficiently implementing resource-intensive NLP applications. 

Ability to develop databases and client-server application. 

Ability to document applications and write reports and documentation for



Gatineau, Québec, Canada.
