The conference is an annual forum introducing latest results in the 
research field of information modeling and knowledge bases. It is one of 
the important forums providing researcher level interaction between 
European and Japanese researchers in the field. 

Full Call for Papers is below the double asterisk line of this email. 
Please distribute this CFP to researchers and scientists around your 
scientific society. Papers are accepted based on the referee process, 
published in conference preprint and after the conference by IOS Press  
(Amsterdam) in the Series of the "Frontiers on Artificial Intelligence".

THE 17th EUROPEAN-JAPANESE CONFERENCE ON INFORMATION MODELLING AND 
KNOWLEDGE BASES
Pori, Finland
June 4-8, 2007

OBJECTIVE: Information modelling is becoming more and more important 
topic for researchers, designers, and users of information systems. The 
amount and complexity of information itself, the number of abstraction 
levels of information, and the size of databases and knowledge bases are 
continuously growing. Conceptual modelling is one of the sub-areas of 
information modelling. The aim of this conference is to bring together 
experts from different areas of computer science and other disciplines, 
who have a common interest in understanding and solving problems on 
information modelling and knowledge bases, as well as applying the 
results of research to practice. We also aim to recognise and study new 
areas on modelling and knowledge bases to which more attention should be 
paid.  Therefore philosophy and logic, cognitive science, knowledge 
management, linguistics and management science are relevant areas, too. 
In the conference, there will be threecategories of presentations, i.e. 
full papers, short papers and position papers.

TOPICS: Modelling of information is necessary in developing information 
systems. Information is acquired from many sources, by using various 
methods and tools. It must be recognised, conceptualised, and 
conceptually organised efficiently so that users can easily understand 
and use it. Modelling is needed to understand, explain, organise, 
predict, and reason on information. It also helps to master the role and 
functions of components of information systems. Modelling can be 
performed with many different purposes in mind, at different levels, and 
by using different notions and different background theories. It can be 
made by emphasising users' conceptual understanding of information on a 
domain level, on an algorithmic level, or on representation levels. On 
each level, the objects and structures used on them are different, and 
different rules govern the behaviour on them. Therefore the notions, 
rules, theories, languages, and methods for modelling on different 
levels are also different. It  will be useful if we can develop theories 
and methodologies for modelling, to be used in different situations, 
because databases, knowledge bases, and repositories in knowledge 
management systems, developed on the basis of models and used to 
technically store information, are growing day by day. In this 
conference the interest is focused on modelling of information, and one 
of the central topics might be modelling of time. Scientific or 
technical papers of high quality are sought on topics including, but not 
limited to the following. The highest priority will be given to papers 
which are strongly related to different aspects of modelling.

(recommended) or PS format.

The submission must be original, and must not be submitted anywhere 
else, or already accepted by any other conference or journal. The 
selection of papers is made on the basis of review, by the international 
program committee. Acceptance of papers will be based on the originality 
of work, on the suitability of the topic to the conference, and on the 
overall quality of your submission. Papers may be submitted in the 
following categories:

SCIENTIFIC / TECHNICAL PAPER: You may submit your paper either as a full 
paper, (max. 20 pages), or as a short paper (of max. 8 pages).

POSITION PAPER: Research projects of any scale are invited to illustrate 
innovative concepts, theories, prototypes, or experiences. Your position 
paper (work-in-progress) should be no longer than 5 pages.

WORKING PRINCIPLES OF THE CONFERENCE:

In the case of acceptance, you are expected to send your paper revised 
for inclusion in the conference preprint to arrive no later than April 
15th, 2007. The pre-print will be distributed in the conference. The 
selected papers are published as the journal publication of "INFORMATION 
MODELLING AND KNOWLEDGE BASES" in the Series of the "Frontiers on 
Artificial Intelligence" by the IOS Press, Amsterdam.

The total number of participants at the conference is limited to 50. The 
authors present their papers at the conference. Only actually
presented and selected papers will be published in the final conference 
publication.
