AUTOMATIC IMAGE CAPTION BUILDING
Ref No: PR2762 - Closing Date: 20th March, 2007
Salary: £24,402 - £29,138 per annum

The postholder will be responsible for research 
and software development relating to the design, 
implementation and evaluation of a search engine 
that returns documents or document fragments 
relevant to a location and its surrounding 
geographic area. The position is funded as part 
of the EU TRIPOD project 
(http://tripod.shef.ac.uk), a ten-partner 
project, which will build an image caption 
creation and searching system, using fusion of 
research approaches from information retrieval, 
text summarisation and computational geography. 
The post would suit someone with a PhD (or 
equivalent) in a relevant, related area. The post 
is available for up to 34 months.




EVALUATION OF IMAGE INDEXING AND SEARCH (Full-time or Part-time)
Ref No: PR2763 - Closing Date: 20th March, 2007
Salary: £24,402 - £29,138 per annum (pro rata if part-time)

The postholder will be responsible for designing 
the evaluation of both an automatic image caption 
creation system and an image search system. The 
position is funded as part of the EU TRIPOD 
project (http://tripod.shef.ac.uk), which will 
build the caption creation and searching system 
using a fusion of research approaches from 
information retrieval, text summarisation and 
computational geography. The post would suit 
someone with a good first degree or equivalent 
who is seeking a PhD in this area and is willing 
to pursue it by part-time work on the project and 
part-time work on the PhD, or someone with 
research experience in a relevant, related area 
who wishes to work full time. The post is 
available full time for up to 18 months or part time for up to 34 months.




MULTI-DOCUMENT SUMMARISATION (Full-time or Part-time)
Ref No: PR2764 - Closing Date: 20th March, 2007
Salary: £24,402 - £29,138 per annum (pro rata if part-time)

The postholder will be responsible for research 
and software development relating to the design, 
implementation and evaluation of algorithms for 
dynamic multi-document summarisation of web pages 
with the aim of helping users to interpret images 
with associated geographical information 
(location and direction). The position is funded 
as part of the EU TRIPOD project 
(http://tripod.shef.ac.uk) The post would suit 
someone with a good first degree or equivalent 
who is seeking a PhD in this area and is willing 
to pursue it by part-time work on the project and 
part-time work on the PhD, or someone with 
research experience in a relevant, related area 
who wishes to work full time. The post is 
available full-time for up to 18 months or part time for up to 34 months.
