Research Assistant/Associate Text Mining

Applications are invited for a Research Associate in Text Mining at the National Centre for Text Mining (www.nactem.ac.uk) in the University of Manchester, School of Computer Science. The post is full time and available from 1st February 2008 for a period of 18 months and funded by the JISC.  The successful candidate will work for a project aiming to adapt and develop NaCTeM text mining technology to social science applications. 

Essential Skills: A PhD (submitted or obtained) in a relevant area, or research experience at an equivalent level and an MSc in Computer Science. Excellent software engineering skills and the ability to develop algorithms and software for NLP/TM systems, excellent knowledge of C, C++, Java, XML, Windows, Linux and Web services. 

Desirable skills: document clustering and classification, text mining, summarisation.
