The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities is a partner
in "KYOTO" (Knowledge-Yielding Ontologies for Transition-Based
Organizations"), a project sponsored by the EU (7th Framework).
The goal of the project is to build a language-independent information
system for the environment/ecology domain that is anchored in an
ontology linked to wordnets in several languages.

We are looking for one full-time and one half-time researcher with
university degrees in computer science, computational linguistics,
Artificial Intelligence, or a combination thereof. Excellent knowledge
of English is required.

The tasks are
(1) Text mining: extraction of domain-specific concepts using
state-of-the-art statistical and knowledge-based methods.
Detection of the concepts' ontological relations (superordinate,
subordinate, part, etc.) to other concepts.

(2) Ontology and wordnet development and tuning: Integrate mined
concepts into an existing language-independent ontology. Collaborate
with sites working on other languages. Test ontology for consistency,
extend and modify it for project purposes.

Salary will be according to the IIa-BAT O scale.
Positions will be for 18 months.
Starting date will be in the summer of 2008, the exact date is negotiable.

Further details are available at: http://www.kyoto-project.eu/

Applications should be sent by email to Christiane Fellbaum fellbaum at bbaw.de
