PhD Position at Erasmus Virtual Knowledge Studio
Project: Argumentation Discovery and Semantic Scholarly Publishing
“Argumentation Discovery and Semantic Scholarly Publishing” is a project linked to the research programme of the Erasmus Studio, to be carried out within the Erasmus School of Economics in collaboration with the Erasmus University Library. It aims to develop models, methods and algorithms for argumentation discovery that can support semantic scholarly publishing: the integration and use of information from different modalities, such as text, graphics, multimedia, raw data and software, in new semantic combinations to enhance knowledge production.
The project will rely on methods and techniques from multiple disciplines including argumentation theory, text mining and knowledge management. It should result in a set of validated analysis tools as well as an authoring environment that can offer a proof of concept for the envisaged approach. The project will focus on scholarly publishing in one or more specific domains, e.g., health economics and/or agent-based economics.
For this project we sollicit applications for the position of
PhD Student (0,8 - 1,0 fte, f/m)
Among the tasks are model development, analysis tools development, realization of an authoring environment, as well as performance evaluation and system validation. The project workplan can be tuned to the profile and expertise of the selected candidate. The PhD student will participate in the SIKS graduate school and in events and activities organized by the Erasmus Studio.
We are looking for a candidate with a MA degree in computer science, information science, economics & informatics, or artificial intelligence who is interested in advancing the solutions for semantic scholarly publishing. Affinity with natural language processing and argumentation theory is welcomed.
The conditions of employment are in correspondence with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). We offer a fulltime contract for the duration of one year, to be prolonged for another three years in case of a positive assessment after one year.
The salary amounts to a minimum of € 1.877,- gross per month (salary scale P CAO NU) and a maximum of € 2.407,- gross per month based on a fulltime contract of 38 hours per week.
