Applications are invited for one post of Research Associate in Text Mining for a period of 12 months. The post is available immediately.
The candidate will work for a collaborative project between NaCTeM www.nactem.ac.uk , MIMAS and the Intute Repository Search project. The aim is to develop a semantic search service using NaCTeM's text mining tools which will allow to link and expose repositories to search technologies based on text mining.
The successful candidate will be part of the growing team of text miners associated with both NaCTeM which is hosted by the School of Computer Science and located in the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (http://www.mib.ac.uk).
Applicants should have: an MSc or equivalent in a Computer Science related area and a good first degree or equivalent (minimum 2:1) in an area relevant to the job description; excellent software engineering skills and the ability to develop algorithms and software for information retrieval and text mining systems; the ability to produce experiments for text mining applications using large data sets; excellent knowledge of information retrieval; excellent knowledge of C, C++, Java, XML, Windows, Linux and Web Services.
