16th International ECSE Summer School in
Novel Computing (Joensuu, FINLAND)

University of Joensuu, Finland, announces the 16th 
International ECSE Summer School in Novel Computing:


The summer school includes three independent courses, one in June and 
two in August:

June 8-10
 	Jean-Luc LeBrun: Scientific Writing Skills
 	"Publish or perish, reviewers decide.
 	Be cited or not, readers decide"

 	Registration deadline: May 20, 2009

August 10-14 -- two parallel courses:
 	Douglas A. Reynolds (MIT Lincoln Lab)
 	"Speaker and Language Recognition"

 	Paul De Bra (Eindhoven Univ Technology)
 	"Platforms for Stories-Based Learning
 	in Future Schools"

 	Early registration deadline: June 15, 2009

In addition to high-quality lectures, the summer school offers an 
inspiring learning environment and relaxed social program, including 
the Finnish sauna, in the middle of North Carelia region. Joensuu is 
located next to the Russian border and about 400 km North-East from the 
capital of the country. It is a vivid student city with over 6000 students 
in the University of Joensuu and 3500 in North Karelia Polytechnic. The 
European Forest Institute, The University and many other institutes and 
export enterprises such as Abloy, LiteonMobile and John Deere give Joensuu 
an international flavour.

The summer school is organized by the Department of Computer Science 
and Statistics, University of Joensuu, Finland (http://cs.joensuu.fi). 
The research areas of the department include speech and image processing, 
educational technology, color research, and psychology of programming.
