Postdoctoral Fellowship in GREYC laboratory, University of Caen
Discourse Structure Analysis — ANR Project ANNODIS

Context The ANNODIS project takes part in an important trend in NLP
and Linguistics that focuses on the discursive organisation of texts:
discourse relations, coreferency, thematic and rhetoric organisation…
Besides theoretical interest, applications are expected in domains
such as content analysis, information research or automated

ANNODIS is a pluridisciplinary project gathering ERSS (Toulouse 2),
IRIT (Toulouse 1) and GREYC (Caen). Its aims are to constitute
corpora of texts annotated at discourse level (according to different
models) and to develop generic tools for annotation and exploitation
of these corpora. One of the first achievements has been the design of
an environment for manual annotation of texts, the Glozz platform
Glozz (http://www.glozz.org). Glozz is already in use within ANNODIS
and in several other projects.

Objective The objectives of the postdoctoral fellowship can be summed
up as « mining discourse level annotations ». Various kinds of tools
and methods may be considered: query languages, visualisation,
statistical methods, data-mining procedures…
A precise orientation will be discussed with the recruited researcher
and adapted to his/her competences and previous experiences. He/She
will work in collaboration with the members of the project in order to
specify the tools and carry out experimentations. The tools will be
integrated in the Glozz platform.

Qualifications The candidate should have a PhD in computational
linguistics and significant experience in software development.
Special competence in a specific domain such as discourse analysis,
text-mining or HCI would also be welcome.

- At GREYC, University of Caen and CNRS (UMR 6072), within the team «
Données, Document, Langues » (« Data, Document, Language ») (http://www.greyc.unicaen.fr/dodola/
- 10 months contract, starting in September or October 2009 (possible
