The BCS-IRSG 33nd European Conference on Information Retrieval

18-21 April 2011



The European Conference on Information Retrieval provides an opportunity for 
both new and established researchers to present research papers reporting 
new, unpublished, and innovative research results within information 
retrieval. Proposals are invited for tutorials of either a half-day (3 hours 
plus breaks) or full day (6 hours plus breaks) on all topics of information 
retrieval and its applications. Each tutorial should cover a single topic in 
detail on state-of-the-art methods in core information retrieval, related 
research or novel and emerging applications. The tutorials will be 
co-located with the ECIR 2011 workshops and will take place at the 
conference centre at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin City Centre.

Submissions should include a cover sheet and an extended abstract. The cover 
sheet should specify:(1) the title and length of the tutorial;(2) the 
intended audience (introductory, intermediate, advanced) and prerequisite 
knowledge or skills required, if any;(3) complete contact information for 
the contact person and other presenters;(4) a brief biography (max. 2 
paragraphs) for each presenter.

The extended abstract should be 3 to 4 pages, and should include:(1) 
description of the course objectives;(2) its relevance to the information 
retrieval community;(3) an outline of the tutorial content (along with 
citations);(4) an indication of how the tutorial will be structured;(5) 
planned course materials;(6) any special requirements.

The deadline for submitting tutorial proposals is the 17th of September, 
2010. Submissions to be sent in PDF format to Evangelos Kanoulas at 
e.kanoulas at sheffield.ac.uk with subject field "ECIR Tutorials". The 
submissions will undergo peer review and tutorials to be presented will be 
selected by a Program Committee. We anticipate notifications being sent on 
the 1st of November, 2010.

Important Dates:
o 17 September 2010 : Tutorial proposals due
o 1st November 2010 : Acceptance notifications
o 18-21 April 2011 : ECIR Conference in Dublin
