Toshiba Research Europe Ltd, Cambridge Research Lab



Toshiba Research Europe Ltd, Cambridge Research Lab (CRL) is seeking a

good candidate to become the Speech Technology Group Leader.



The CRL Speech Technology Group (STG), consisting of ASR and TTS research

and language development teams, is a multinational team of dynamic
individuals.

The research team carries out mid-to-long term research for Toshiba’s
speech

recognition and synthesis systems and contributes to the development of
systems

for deployment in North America and Europe. STG works in collaboration with
the

speech R&D groups at Toshiba R&D Center, Kawasaki, Japan and Toshiba China
R&D

Center, Beijing, China, and business divisions of Toshiba Group, Japan.
Based

in the beautiful city of Cambridge, England, the group has close links with

the University of Cambridge.



STG is actively developing novel methods and techniques for speech
recognition

and speech synthesis: conveying rich expressive information in
text-to-speech

synthesis; making speech recognition robust to speaker, noise and task; and

applying to many languages and speakers.



STG has made significant contributions to the next generation of Toshiba’s
speech

recognition and HMM-based speech synthesis. Its large vocabulary continuous
speech

recognition engine for English is used in Toshiba’s Speech to Speech
Translation

system. TTS engines for major North American languages are used in web-based
TTS

services.



The successful candidate will lead research work on robust and spontaneous
speech

recognition, statistical speech synthesis, and development work on both ASR
and TTS

for American and European languages.



Required skills:

- Related PhD and significant post-PhD experience in speech processing in
industry

   or academia

- Good record of research publications

- Strong leadership on leading research in the area of ASR and TTS, and

   interdisciplinary area of speech, language and knowledge processing

- Strong leadership on taking advantage of collaboration with academia

- Good communication skills



Any of the following are welcomed:

- Industrial coding experience

- Experience of working in a team

- Knowledge of major European languages other than English
