In the context of a recently granted EU project (D-Box) starting in 
November 2012, the Idiap Research Institute is seeking a post-doctoral 
(or equivalent) researcher for application oriented research in 
multilingual speech recognition. D-Box's main goal is to develop and 
test an innovative architecture for conversational agents whose purpose 
is to support multilingual collaboration between users on a common 
problem in an interactive application.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in speech 
processing, including automatic (multilingual) speech recognition.
Additional expertise in multilingual speech synthesis or multilingual 
dialog management will definitely be a plus.

Requirements
- PhD or equivalent in an area related to speech recognition, synthesis, 
and/or dialog management
- Excellent knowledge in speech technologies (HMMs. ANNs) and related 
technologies (machine learning, statistical pattern recognition)
- Excellent programming, scripting and writing skills in Java, C/C++ 
(Matlab alone will NOT be enough)
- Ability to work in a team and in the context of a international 
project (involving international collaboration and meetings).
- Carry out research as stated in the assigned project(s), follow 
evolution of projec
- Fulfill project-related assignments (evaluations, deliverables, ..) as 
requeste
- Publish results

Whilst Idiap functions day to day in English, we are based in French 
speaking Switzerland and a working knowledge of one or more of the Swiss 
languages would be a distinct advantage.
