Research Associate in incremental Spoken Dialogue Systems for Hyper-local Search

Applications are sought for a Research Associate post in the
Interaction Lab in the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences.
The Research Associate will work primarily on the EC FP7 project
"PARLANCE" to investigate and develop incremental, dynamic spoken
dialogue systems. Working with industry partners Yahoo!, the post will
involve creating voice-enabled hyper-local search applications.

The post is available for 26 months (starting September 2012).  The
grade will be either 7 or 8 based on candidate qualifications and
experience. Grade 7 candidates will be expected to conduct individual
and collaborative research achieving project goals in a timely manner.
Grade 8 will entail greater responsibility developing research
objectives, projects and proposals as well as other responsibilities.

Essential Criteria:

Experience (at PhD level or equivalent) with machine learning and/or
Dialogue Systems and/or Natural Language Generation (NLG)  and/or
Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems.
Programming ability in Java and/or C++ and/or Python.
Experience with collection and analysis of dialogue data.
Experience of evaluation methodologies for dialogue interfaces.

Desirable Criteria:

Experience in incremental Spoken Dialogue Systems research and development.
Experience with user simulations.
Experience with user modelling.
Familiarity with Reinforcement Learning theory and statistical models
such as POMDPs.
Experience in statistical modelling and analysis.
Collaborative research experience.
Publications and existing international research profile in the field
of spoken dialogue systems.
